Marble Cake Recipe

Chocolate Marble Cake

If you want to try this old fashioned style marble cake recipe you will need to gather together the following ;

INGREDIENTS

45g/1.5oz plain chocolate, chopped

180g/6oz butter or baking margarine, softened

1/2tsp vanilla extract

180g/6oz golden caster sugar

3 medium sized eggs

250g/8oz plain flour, sieved

1.5tsp baking powder

45g/1.5oz ground almonds

2tbsp semi skimmed milk

METHOD

Preheat the oven to 180C, 350F, Gas 4.

Grease and line a standard 2lb loaf tin.

Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water taking care not to allow the water to spill onto the chocolate.

Allow to cool then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a large mixing bowl cream together the caster sugar with the butter.

Beat in the eggs gradually bit by bit.

Sieve the flour and baking powder into the mixture and stir in the almonds and milk.

Gently fold the ingredients together.

Divide the mixture into 2 separate bowls and add the melted chocolate to one of them.

Drop alternate spoonfuls of each mixture into the loaf tin gently swirling the 2 together to give the marbled effect.

Bake in the oven for around 45 minutes until golden brown and firm to the touch.

Remove from oven and leave in tin to cool for about 15 minutes then carefully turn out onto a wire rack.

Slice and serve while still warm from the oven or allow to cool completely and store in an airtight container.

Enjoy and share your delicious homemade cake!
