For a delicious chocolate date cake you will need ;
INGREDIENTS
4oz/120g unsalted butter
4oz/120g caster sugar
2 eggs
3tbsp cocoa powder
5oz/150g self-raising flour
4oz/120g dates
4tbsp dark chocolate chips
METHOD
Preheat the oven to 180C, 350F, Gas 4.
Grease and line a standard 2lb loaf tin.
Cream the butter and the sugar together in a large mixing bowl until soft and fluffy.
Beat the eggs and add to the mixture gradually, beating well.
Sieve the flour and the cocoa powder into the bowl and stir until well combined.
Chop the dates and stir into the mixture.
Stir in the chocolate chips.
Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and smooth the top.
Bake in the centre of the preheated oven for about an hour.
Remove from the oven and leave in the tin for a few minutes.
Turn out onto a cooling rack.
Serve or allow to cool completely and store in an airtight container.
